Solid State Scientist


We are seeking a motivated, career driven scientist who can work both independently and as part of a team, to join our solid state focussed contract research organization based in Edinburgh, Scotland. This position involves supporting our global clients with their solid state development requirements throughout the pharmaceutical development process, conducting research and development to the highest technical standards, adhering to safety and quality practices. 


Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • BSC/Masters/ PhD degree in material science, chemistry, or equivalent with > 2 years’ industrial experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of materials characterization and organic chemistry.
  • Experience carrying out physical and chemical properties characterisation of materials using a wide variety of characterisation techniques (e.g., PXRD, TGA, DSC, microscopy, single crystal XRD, DVS, NMR, HPLC, FT-IR, Raman). 
  • Experience designing and conducting appropriate experiments and programs for solid form screening studies such as salt screening, cocrystal screening, polymorph screening, crystallisation of amorphous material, and early crystallisation development.
  • Experience maintaining and calibrating critical laboratory equipment.
  • Experience presenting and discussing experimental results and providing development recommendations based on experimental outcomes. 
  • Experience with adhering to safe laboratory working practices and local SHE policies.
  • Experience contributing to the preparation and review of patent and regulatory documentation.

  • Good knowledge and application of safe laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to perform research and development to the highest technical and quality standards in compliance with the company’s internal quality policies.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to clearly communicate ideas, research results, and conclusions.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously, plan own work activities effectively and meet deadlines.
